Premarital Counseling

Preparing for a wedding can often be overwhelming and full of challenges. One of the biggest challenges we face is looking past the day of the wedding service into the life long covenant we are entering into as a couple. At Hendersonville First UMC we want to prepare couples for the journey ahead by laying a strong foundation that will not erode with the test of time.

Throughout 2008 we will be offering a premarital course entitled “Prepare to Last”. Prepare to Last is designed to be used in small group settings that assist each couple in gaining insights into their own relationship as well as having the opportunity to build relationships with other engaged couples.   “Prepare to Last” provides couples with a an on-line relationship assessment that was created by Dr. David Olson (creator of Prepare//Enrich) that sheds light within areas such as family expectations, communication, conflict resolution, finances and much more. Couples will receive a workbook that allows them to apply at home what they are learning within each session. The course also comes with powerful DVD’s that feature Jeff and Debbie McElroy, founders of Forever Families. 

We are offering Prepare to Last in two forms. One will be an 8 week study (Wednesday evenings) which includes one-on-one time with the pastor leading the session that will give couples an added bonus in learning the relational skills that are vital to a successful marriage. The second form takes places within a weekend retreat setting that will held here at HFUMC (Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday afternoon).
